What is Preservé
What is Preservé™ Breast Augmentation?
Preservé™ is a breast augmentation technique that minimizes tissue dissection to create a precise pocket for an implant while preserving important anatomical structures of the breast. It is performed through a small incision with a balloon that gently spreads the tissue to create space for an implant.

Common Questions
FAQs
What type of implants can be used with Preservé™?
The Preservé™ Breast Augmentation is done with smooth silk MOTIVA Ergonomix silicone breast implants. Mini, Demi, and Full implant profiles can be selected. The maximum implant placed with this technique is 320cc in our practice.
The size of the implants is based on a patient’s individual breast measurements, chest projection, and other anatomic considerations in addition to the patient’s desired aesthetic.
Am I a candidate for Breast Preservé™ augmentation?
Good candidates for the procedure may include the following:
- Desire a natural look
- Have small to moderate implant size goals
- Are having a primary (first time) breast augmentation with or without a lift
Not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure. Some patients may be excluded based on:
- Desiring an implant too large for the technique
- Anatomic differences that are better suited with other traditional techniques
- History of prior breast surgery
The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for Preservé™ is through a consultation with Dr. Alicia Billington.
How is Breast Preservé™ different from a traditional breast augmentation?
Traditional augmentation techniques involve the use of cauterization to burn the tissue to create a plane for the implant and dissection of the lower pole of the breast.
Preservé™ emphasizes:
- Creation of a tight pocket for the implant
- Less dissection of tissue via a spreading technique with balloon inflation
- Preservation of the circummammary ligament and lower breast tissue
- Potential for less anesthesia
While both a traditional and Preservé™ breast augmentation can give natural results, Preservé™ focuses on limiting the dissection of important breast anatomy structures.
Where are the incisions placed?
The implants are placed through a small incision in the crease of the breast.
What is recovery like after Preservé™ Breast Augmentation?
Patients are typically allowed to resume all physical activity after 2 weeks and water activities such as swimming after 4 weeks.
Does it hurt?
Tumescent which includes numbing solution is injected into the breast as part of the procedure. This allows for patients to sometimes undergo the procedure with sedation only. This numbing medication also decreases pain post operatively. Patients are usually advised to take only Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain after surgery.
I am afraid of anesthesia. Do I have to go to sleep?
For certain patients it may be possible to do the procedure without general anesthesia. If a lift is added then general anesthesia is needed.
How soon can I return to work?
We recommend taking off from work at least one day after surgery and no physical activity for 2 weeks post operatively.
Will I need drains?
No drains are required with this technique.
Can Breast Preservé™ be combined with other procedures?
Yes! This surgery is often combined with a mastopexy (breast lift).
How do I know what implant size is right for me?
· During consultation Dr. Billington and her nurse Nicole will ask detailed questions about a patient’s goal size.
· Patients are encouraged to bring inspiration photos.
· Measurements are taken of the breast to help determine the range best suited to each individual patient.
· Patients then try on sizers and select the implants with the team.
